Vladimir Lande

Vladimir Lande was born in St. Petersburg (Leningrad), Russia. He graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory of Music with a Master's Degree in Oboe while maintaining studies in conducting and piano. He served as a principal oboist with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra from 1984 until 1989. Major tours with the orchestra included most of the European and Asian countries. Main recordings with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic orchestra included all Brahms symphonies as well as symphonies by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Schubert, and Shostakovich. Vladimir worked under the baton of great conductors such as: E. Mravinsky, M. Yansons, L. Bernstein, C. Abbado, V. Gergiev and Y. Temirkanov. He has also won many prestigious prizes including the First Prize of Russian Republic Wind Competition. While maintaining his successful oboe career, he kept studying conducting with the professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Ilya Musin and the Music Director of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Alexander Dmitriev.

Since his immigration to the Unites States of America in December of 1989, Vladimir Lande works as a principal oboist and soloist with groups such as The Baltimore Opera and Concert Artists of Baltimore. He also worked with the Baltimore, Delaware, Richmond and many other symphony orchestras. From 1999 until 2002, he worked as a Music Director and Conductor of the Maryland Youth Symphonietta. In September of 2002, he became a Music Director of the Youth Festival Orchestra of JCC / Gordon Center for performing Arts. Since 1997, he also has been conducting the St. Mary’s College Symphony Orchestra. From 1996 until the present time, he is guest conducting the Bachanalia Festival Chamber Orchestra in New York. Recent conducting performances in Saluzzo, Italy have been greatly praised. Since September 2003, he became the music director of the Chamber Orchestra of Southern Maryland (COSMIC) and also became the Principal Guest Conductor of the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. In 2004, Vladimir Lande became the Music Director and Conductor of the Washington Soloist Chamber Orchestra in Washington D.C. In the summer of 2004 Vladimir Lande was invited to conduct the opening concert of a famous White Nights Festival in the Grand Philharmonic Hall of St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2004, Vladimir became the principal Guest Conductor of the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra.

During the 2005 - “ 2006 season Vladimir Lande is scheduled to conduct the famous St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, the National Gallery Orchestra in Washington D.C., and operas for the Teatro Lirico d'E™Europa such as the Barber of Seville and Carmen. His forthcoming tours will also take him to the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy, St. Petersburg, Russia, and Paris, France.

Vladimir Lande has studied with Gustav Meir, Peabody Conservatory, and is currently studying with Edward Polochick, Peabody Conservatory and Concert Artists of Baltimore. He is also currently studying with the music director of Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam Maestro Maris Jansons. Mr. Lande’s recent tours took him to New Zealand, Australia, Europe (included Cathedral St. Martin’s in the Field, London, England), the Milan Conservatory, Italy, and most of the United States of America.

Vladimir Lande is a faculty member at American University in Washington D.C. and the Assistant Conductor of the Johns Hopkins Symphony Orchestra.
